Most people know Glen Campbell as a pop-country icon of the 1960s and 1970s. A few may know of his extensive session work with the “Wrecking Crew” and that he toured briefly with the Beach Boys (in place of an ailing Brian Wilson), but most people are unaware that Campbell started in more traditional country and bluegrass circles. Luckily this early history was captured in his 1962 album with the Green River Boys called “Big Bluegrass Special.” The album has been in and out of print (the last re-issue was 2002, but is not easy to find. Many thanks to The Crooner’s Corner for making it available.
