The Only Band That Ever Mattered

The ClashI was heading out of town in my car on Saturday when I tuned into CBC Radio 2 (94.1 FM in Toronto) for the Inside the Music show. The program being aired was called The Clash: Revolution Rock, and it featured the usual anthems, unreleased live tracks, plus some recent and vintage band interview clips with Clash members Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon and Topper Headon. Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), film director Julien Temple and others are also interviewed. The show was produced by Joyride Media (Paul Chuffo and Joshua Jackson).

Unfortunately, I tuned in just as the show was coming to a close. Luckily the show has been archived by the Public Radio eXchange (PRX), my new favourite radio site. I had recently watched the incredible documentary, Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten, and so I was stoked to find a download of the radio broadcast. A video documentary of “Revolution Rock” will also air on U.S. PBS stations nationwide on 1-15 March 2009. The special features vintage live performance clips filmed between 1977-1982.

Joe StrummerThe Future is Unwritten pivots around a campfire scene, where family, friends, and former bandmates tell their stories about Strummer as they listen to his BBC World Service radio show: London Calling. I did a search on PRX and found that they had also archived all 8 episodes of London Calling. You must register a free account to download them.
