My introduction to jazz came through my father’s love of the swing era of big band jazz. He grew up during the golden age of radio and came of age during the early 1950s when rock and roll was being born. My father however was not a record collector and so my interest in jazz developed very slowly as I was gradually introduced to recordings over the last 30 years. This interest became more focused when I first met my wife in 1992. Her brother and father are both big music fans with extensive and ecclectic record collections that contain a wide variety of jazz. It was this variety that piqued my interest the most, as I was not very aware of the various jazz styles. To help broaden my jazz horizons, my soon to be brother- and father-in-law began presenting me with various jazz albums. This collection from the Atlantic label was one of the first I received.
