This is one of a handful of lost bluegrass records from Canada’s budget ARC label. ARC records was a subsidiary of Arc Sound Co Ltd, which was established in Toronto in 1958 by Philip G. Anderson and William R. Gilliland. At first a record distributor, Arc Sound began releasing recordings under its own Arc label in 1959 and purchased the Precision Pressing Co in 1961. Arc Records released a series of pop singles albums under the name “Hit Parade” (1963-64). Arc Sound and its subsidiaries came under the control of a Canadian-owned holding company, the Ahed Music Corp Ltd, Toronto, in 1969 and ceased operations in 1986.
Liner Notes:
Charlie McVay formed the Lone Pine Boys in 1954 in New Castle, Pennsylvania. In 1956 Charlie joined Skeeter Bonn on Radio W.W.V.A., Wheeling, West Virginia. Later he played with Toby Stroud, Lee Webb and Hylo Brown.
With a Wealth of experience under his belt, Charlie returned to New Castle to reorganize the Lone Pine Boys. The group now consists of: Benny Strong, playing bass and lead singing; John Stomp on fiddle; Bill Adams playing guitar; Gene Daugherty pickin’ Mandolin; and last but certainly not least, Charlie McVay on the five string banjo. Incidentally, Charlie has the only metal aluminum banjo in North America, which he built himself.
In the past few years Charlie McVay and the Lone Pine Boys have toured the United States and Canada, Pickin’ and Singin’ Blue Grass Style, for one and all to enjoy. We believe you’ll enjoy the popular selection of Blue Grass tunes on this album too.
