Harry Belafonte – The Midnight Special

After the Carnegie Hall double-LP, The Midnight Special is probably my all-time favourite Belafonte LP. The song titles indicate a folk album, but the infusion of jazz and soul makes it so much richer – even the classic Michael Row the Boat Ashore is swinging!

Millard Thomas, Ernie Calabria: guitar
Norman Keenan: bass
Danny Barrajanos, Don Lamond, Percy Brice: drums
Joe Wilder: trumpet solos
Jerome Richardson: saxophone solos
