Travis Wammack – Not For Sale

click here to download the album in mp3 format ~ ripped by Harley McCluth for http://skydogselysium.blogspot.comOne of the things that keeps me interested in maintaining this blog is the amount of great music that continues to be obscured as the music industry slowly implodes. There have been so many label/distributor mergers in the last 40 years that it is hard to keep track. These mergers have eliminated thousands of great albums from once diverse catalogs.

Occassionally I like to cook up a storm in the late afternoon, especially during the fall and winter months when the days are short and it gets dark early. Soup and bread are a great combo, but sometimes I put in a few hours whipping up a great feast.

Cooking is an art that bares its best fruit when you are inspired. Many of the offerings on this blog are the result of an afternoon spent in the kitchen. Ripping long forgotten LP’s provides a great soundtrack pour le grande chef!

A few weeks ago I decided I would go into the vinyl vault (I have several such nooks all over the house) and pull out an album completely at random to listen to while I was cooking. The first album I grabbed was “Not for Sale” by Travis Wammack. I flipped it over and studied the back cover. I couldn’t even remember Wammack or when and where I had purchased this Capricorn label LP from 1975. I was even more embarassed when I put it on, because I was just blown away by Wammack’s soulful playing. This album was beyond being great southern-fried rock, it was incredibly funky! How on earth had I forgotten Travis?!

Having learned my lesson from previous offerings, I decided to troll the blogosphere to see if I could find this album elsewhere. In the process I discovered an excellent southern rock blog by Harley McCluth called Skydog’s Elysium – which you definitely need to check out. Thanks Harley!
